Hip Hop Studio

Studio Home Page
Hip hop dance refers to dance styles, mainly street dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music, or that have develped as a part of the hip hop culture.

By its widest definition, it can include a wide range of styles such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance. It can also include the many styles simply labelled as hip hop, old school hip hop (or hype), hip hop new style and freestyle.

Step1
Forget what you know. When learning hip-hop dance moves, you have to throw away what you've done in the past and embrace the new style of dance.
Step2
Find the beat. The key to learning hip-hop dance moves is finding the beat. Listen for the driving beat of the base. If you're having a difficult time finding the beat, stop and listen. Ignore every instrument or distraction except for the base. Once you're able to find it, you're ready to go to the next step.
Step3
Turn on your TV. To get the latest in hip-hop music and dances, turn to a video music channel such as MTV or Music Chanel, depending on your cable lineup, you may have more music video channels. These channels are great places to watch the pros in action.
Step4

Imitate the dance moves. You can do this in the privacy of your own room. The key is repetition. The more you imitate the hip-hop moves, the easier and more natural they become.

Step1
Stand with your feet together.
Step2
Jump out with one foot forward and one foot back. Land on the heel of your front foot forward at a 45-degree angle across the body. Keep the knees slightly bent and your upper body forward just a bit.
Step3
Twist the front foot, on the heel, outwards. As you twist out with the front foot, the back foot will step out on the toe in the opposite direction. So if the right foot is front it twists right and the back foot steps out to the left.
Step4
Hop and switch feet so that the other foot is forward at a 45-degree angle across the body, twist out on the heel and step on the back foot's toes.
Step5
Continue hopping and twisting on the heel and toe from side to side then add an extra twist to one side.
Puppet Walk
Step1
Bend your arms at the elbows and relax your wrists so that they hang down loosely.
Step2
Stand hips width apart and take a step forward at a 45-degree angle. As you step, move your arms up and down with your leg. Bring your chest up and down with the step as well.
Step3
Repeat to the other side.
Step4
Add a pop to the movements to make the puppet more of a pop-lock style of move.
